The Different Parts of a Vintage Stocking

Vintage Stockings, or Fully Fashioned stockings, are made on original flat bed machines, where the stocking is knitted flat and sewn together at the back. Vintage stockings are usually knitted of 15 denier 100% nylon yarn with no stretch. Fully-Fashioned stockings always have a top welt made by doubling over the top fabric and sewing it back onto itself. A finishing hole (loop) is always left in the middle of the seam, at the back of the top welt, which allows the stocking to fit better on the thigh.
